How to Play EuroMillions
The Basics
EuroMillions is slightly similar to how other lottery games function – but they put their own spin on the formula. The gist is this: You select five numbers from 1 to 50, plus two additional numbers – also known as Lucky Stars – from 1 to 12. For players to win the jackpot, all five main numbers and both Lucky Stars have to match the combination drawn. The standard pricing for one EuroMillions ticket costs €2.50, but it may be a bit higher in some online outlets due to additional fees imposed by some lottery sites.
The Super Draw
The EuroMillions Super Draw offers a guaranteed minimum prize of €130 million!
The EuroMillions Super Draws are special events held every now and then that ensures a big payout to winners. These draws function pretty much the same as any regular EuroMillions draw, with one difference: jackpots are set to a guaranteed amount of at least €130 million. Should no one win the jackpot, it will simply roll over to the succeeding draw, and the next, and so on until it reaches the €190 million jackpot cap. The jackpot can remain at the aforementioned cap for a total of four drawings.
If no one still wins the jackpot, then the prize money will be distributed among winners of the 2nd prize tier. This is what is called an Event Draw. So far, however, there has never been a EuroMillions Event Draw.
The Odds of Winning
If you were thinking that it would be impossible to match all 5 numbers, plus 2 Lucky Stars, you’d be surprised to know that you actually have much better odds of winning a EuroMillions jackpot than, say, a Powerball one. Compared to the latter’s 1 in 292,201,338.00 odds, EuroMillions’ odds look much, much better. The overall odds for winning any prize, for instance, are 1 in 13 – pretty impressive, if you ask me. Take a gander at the table below to see what I mean:
The Biggest EuroMillions Winners
I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again: EuroMillions’ odds are pretty impressive for a lottery of this scale. In fact, there have been a total of 365 jackpot winners from the 9 countries that run EuroMillions. Here are some of the biggest winners:
One of the biggest EuroMillions’ jackpots won was back in October 24, 2014, when an anonymous winner from Castelo Branco, Portugal nabbed the €190 million prize. The astronomical prize was the result of six roll overs.
The jackpot has reached the €190 million jackpot ceiling other times as well. Interestingly, these happened in October as well. One was in October 6, 2017, and another in October 8, 2019. We’re sensing some kind of pattern here..
In August 12, 2012, couple Adrian and Gillian Bayford won the £148,656,000 jackpot. Their story took a sad turn, however, as their new life – and the new problems that come with it – took a toll on their relationship. They have since divorced and are now living separate lives.
Next up are Colin and Chris Weir who, in July 12, 2011, won the £161,653,000 jackpot. The couple went on to establish the Weir Charitable Trust, a charity organization that aims to support the Scottish community by way of funding worthwhile projects.
So What Happens if You Win?
Unlike other lottery games, if you win the jackpot in EuroMillions, you don’t have the option to be paid in annuity. Instead, jackpots are paid as a lump sum – which means that you get to take home more than if annuity adjustments were involved.
As for taxes, you will be glad to know that EuroMillions games are taxfree – except for three European countries, that is. Portugal, for starters, takes 20% taxes from prizes exceeding €5,000. Spain, on the other hand, takes 20% off from prizes that exceed €2,500. Switzerland players have it worst though. The taxes collected from their winnings are approximately 35%.
How Does SuperEnalotto Work?
The Basics
SuperEnalotto’s mechanics are pretty easy to grasp. You select 6 main numbers from a pool consisting of the numbers 1 to 90, while a “Jolly” number—which is similar to a bonus ball—is also selected and determines who wins the second prize tier.
Like all lotteries, the object is to match as many of your chosen numbers as possible. Matching all 6 awards you the jackpot, for instance, while the lesser numbers matched means the more you go down the prize ladder. Unlike other lotteries, however, a player must match at least 2 numbers to win.
SuperStar Number
SuperEnalotto also gives players the option to select an additional number called the SuperStar number for an additional €0.50 per line. If matched, winnings can increase by up to a hundredfold for those who also matched their main numbers, while guaranteeing a fixed amount to those who don’t match any of their 6 main numbers at all.
Back when the old rules were still in effect, the winning SuperStar numbers were based on the National Lotto draw that was held in Rome, but have since moved away from that model since the new rules took effect. Instead, a separate draw—which is independent from the 6 main numbers—is held.
Systems
Here’s where it gets a bit confusing: SuperEnalotto allows you to select more than 6 main numbers through their Integrated System. Essentially, this is functionally the same as picking additional lines, but instead of choosing another set of six numbers from 1 to 90, you simply choose the 7th, 8th, 9th number and so on. Like additional lines, this increases your chances of winning because every possible combination of your chosen numbers is played. SuperEnalotto claims that this option is more popular with syndicate players.
They also offer the Reduced System, which is a cheaper alternative than the Integrated System. Similar to the Integrated System, players can choose more than 6 main numbers. However, this doesn’t guarantee that you will win a jackpot prize even if the numbers drawn include the ones you entered. Instead, some guarantees are given (which are dependent on which type of Reduced system you choose). For example:
Type of Entry Numbers Matched Guarantee
G5 entry 6 At least 5 will line up
G4 entry 6 At least 4 will line up
G3 entry 6 At least 3 will line up
The Odds of Winning
As far as the odds of winning goes, SuperEnalotto proves to be among the hardest lotteries to win big in—topping even both the US Powerball and Mega Millions in this regard. Check out the table below:
Numbers Matched Odds of Winning
6 + 0 1 in 622,614,630
5 +1 1 in 103,769,105
5 + 0 1 in 1,250,230
4+ 0 1 in 11,907
3 + 0 1 in 327
2 + 0 1 in 22
As for the SuperStar draws, the odds of winning are pretty astronomical! Check out the quick breakdown below:
Numbers Matched Odds of Winning
6 + SuperStar 1 in 56,053,316,700
5 + Jolly + SuperStar 1 in 9,339,219,450
5 + SuperStar 1 in 112,520,716
4 + SuperStar 1 in 1,071,626
3 + SuperStar 1 in 29,404
2 + SuperStar 1 in 1,936
1 + SuperStar 1 in 303
SuperStar 1 in 138
Meanwhile, the odds of winning any prize at all—which is 1 in 20—isn’t that bad. Another thing worth noting: you can win instant prizes (from €25 up) if you match your numbers with the ones contained in the magic square that appears on every purchase slip.
So, What Happens if You Win?
SuperEnalotto is a parimutuel lottery, which means that each prize tier gets a share of the total prize fund. In this case, 60% of ticket sales are allocated to the prize fund, which is then distributed throughout. Here is how much each prize tier receives from the fund:
Numbers Matched % of the Prize Fund
6 17.4%
5 + 1 13%
5 4.2%
4 4.2%
3 12.8%
2 40%

List of National Lotteries in Canada
Canada Lotto 6/49
Lotto 6/49 is the first national lottery in Canada to allow players to pick their own numbers. As its name would suggest, players have to choose 6 numbers from 1 to 49 to play. Matching all of your picks with the official draw will earn you the jackpot – which starts at $5 million and rolls over every draw until it’s won.
Canada’s Lotto 6/49 has drawings every Wednesday and Saturday night.
Canada Lotto Max
Launched in 2009 as a replacement to Lotto Super 7, Lotto Max is today one of Canada’s biggest national lotteries. To play, just pick 7 numbers from 1 to 50. Match the 7 main numbers and you win the jackpot.
Jackpots start at $10 million and roll over every draw until it’s won. Currently, a $70 million prize ceiling is imposed for the jackpot. Secondary prizes are determined by additional bonus balls which are drawn after the main balls.
Lotto Max drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday night.
Daily Grand
Launched in October 2016, Daily Grand is the third national lottery to be made available to all regions in Canada. The game gives players a chance to win up to $1,000 everyday for life.
To win, players have to pick 5 numbers from 1 to 49, plus an additional Grand Number from 1 to 7. Match all 6 numbers and you take home the grand prize. With 9 prize tiers in total and more than 1 in 7 chances of winning a prize, it’s definitely worth checking out.
Daily Grand has drawings every Monday and Thursday night.
Daily Grand is known as Grande Vie in Quebec and Atlantic Canada.

About SuperEnalotto
SuperEnalotto has been around since December 1997, but its roots can be traced all the way back to the 1950’s. Its predecessor, Enalotto, was quite popular back in the day, but that didn’t stop lottery organizers SISAL from completely revamping it when they won the bid for it in April of 1996. Under SISAL, SuperEnalotto became a much bigger hit than before—owing to its easytounderstand concept and massive jackpots.
But that’s not to say that they rested on their laurels—SuperEnalotto continued to evolve through the years. Up until the end of June 2009, the winning numbers heavily relied on the first numbers drawn for regional lotteries held by Lottomatica. The lotteries came from 7 Italian cities such as Bari, Florence, Milan, Naples, Palermo, Rome and Venice (in that order).

SuperEnalotto is one of the most popular lotteries around—especially in Italy, where the game originates. Every week, millions of people participate in this mega lottery, which isn’t a surprise. SuperEnalotto offers some of the largest jackpots around—which, by the way, grows until someone wins! Curious? Read on to know more about it.
How Does US Powerball Work?
The Basics
In US Powerball, you pick:
five numbers (i.e. the white balls) from a selection pool consisting of 169, and
one number (i.e. the red ball) from a selection pool of 125
Take note that the red ball can be the same number as one of the white balls. You can pick numbers manually or via a Quick Pick option – which means you let a system randomly pick the numbers for you.
Winning numbers are drawn at 10:59pm every Wednesday and Saturday at Universal Studios in Florida.
Two drums, one containing the white balls, and the other containing the red balls, are used to randomly select the winning numbers. Matching all 6 numbers awards you the jackpot, while matching 5 gives you the 2nd place prize category, and so on.
Each ticket line costs $1, but some online lottery sites may charge higher to cover for the service of purchasing, scanning and safekeeping tickets.
The Power Play
You can also include a Power Play number in your entry.
For an additional $1 on top of the $1 per line (again, prices may vary on lottery sites), the Power Play number multiplies prizes for nonjackpot winnings by up to 5 or 10 times. The second prize with the Power Play multiplier activated, for instance, is automatically doubled to $2,000,000.
Check out the table below to see how Power Play affects each prize category.

What Happens if You Win?
Powerball jackpots are split between anyone who has a winning lottery ticket, while all other prizes are of a fixed amount. That said, nonjackpot prizes could be reduced if the number of winners exceed the lottery operator’s prize fund.
Winners have the option to choose whether to collect their payment as an annuity paid over a 29year period, or as a lump sum.
Winners have a year to claim their prize. Otherwise, the money often goes to the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund, which funnels the money to charity. This won’t always be the case, though, as each MUSL member has different rules that dictate what happens to unclaimed prizes.
Canadian Lotto Winners
The Biggest Jackpot in Canada, $65 million
The current record for Canada’s biggest jackpot in lottery history was won by the Lanteri family from Montreal. They won the record prize back in June 2019 from a game of Lotto Max.
Interestingly, this isn’t the family’s first lottery jackpot. Two years ealier, in January 2017, Giuseppa Lanteri won $1 million from a different lottery.
Lucky Man $60 Million Winner from Alberta, Bon Truong
A landscaper from Edmonton, Alberta was the winner of the massive prize back for a Lotto Max drawing back in October 2018. He claimed his prize 10 months after the draw and revealed that he had been playing his winning combination for more than 30 years.
Youngest Lottery Winner in Canada, Charlie Lagarde
In a story of unbelievably good luck, Charlie Lagarde from the Quebec region won $1,000 a week for life after buying her first ever lottery ticket for her 18th birthday.
«Set For Life»
Set For Life.
